In a review of Whitefish Bay’s crash data, TADI identified specific patterns of pedestrian, bicyclist, right-angle, and run-off-the-road crashes. TADI worked collaboratively with the village to identify engineering solutions and apply for 90 percent federal funding through the state administered Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). Improvements included:
- New Traffic Signals (2 intersections) with Pedestrian Countdown Timers
- Pedestrian Crossings (2 locations) along Lake Drive, “Danish Offset” Concept
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (4 locations) on Lake Drive
- High-Friction-Surface-Treatment at Curves on Lake Drive
- Dynamic Speed Feedback Signs (several locations)
- High-Visibility Pedestrian Crosswalks (several locations)
- Double Stop Signs with Red Reflective Tape on Poles (several locations)
- Upgraded Street Lighting along Silver Spring Drive
