New Berlin Eisenhower Traffic Circulation & Safety Study

Location: City of New Berlin
TADI's Role: Traffic Circulation & Safety Study

The New Berlin school district planned to reconfigure the parking lots at the New Berlin Eisenhower Middle/High School.  Traffic Analysis & Design (TADI) was hired to consider traffic circulation options as part of the work.  TADI analyzed internal and external circulation within the overall site including one-way and two-way options.  The study addressed improvements to the following: driveway utilization, special events, staff and student parking areas and circulation, parent drop-off locations, student driving behavior, pedestrians, bicyclists, bus circulation, pavement marking, signing, speed, and other general observations were all considered.  The team agreed that the design that best accommodated the situation included access restrictions at a current access point as well as a new signalized intersection with pedestrian phasing, left turn phasing and special school bus actuation/timing plan to accommodate the arrival and dismissal times of the school.  The following elements were conducted as part of this project:

  • Data Collection
  • Coordination with City of New Berlin and New Berlin School District
  • Synchro modeling
  • Alternative traffic control analysis, including MUTCD signal warrants
  • Traffic signal design plans
  • Traffic signal timing plans
