Larry Barta, former WisDOT employee, joins TADI’s new Madison office

This October, Larry Barta joined Traffic Analysis & Design, Inc. (TADI) to become its newest Project Manager. Barta previously worked with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southwest Region as a project manager and advanced civil engineer. Because of his expert knowledge of WisDOT design projects and planning studies, Barta’s experience will augment TADI’s existing traffic analysis and design capabilities, especially as it relates to completing WisDOT projects quickly and efficiently.

During his 34-year tenure with WisDOT, Barta served as the Southwest Region’s Value Engineering (VE) Coordinator and lead the team that created the WisDOT Planning & Environmental Linkages (PEL) process, ultimately managing the state’s first PEL study. Barta is also well-versed in American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) processes and documentation. He has managed and overseen WisDOT transportation design and planning projects throughout the region that have ranged widely in scope and budget, from $50,000 to more than $20 million.

“Larry brings a diverse skill set and knowledge base to TADI,” said Stephanie Olsson, Vice President and Co-Owner of TADI. “We’re thrilled to have him join our team, and we’re excited about what we’ll be able to do as a firm moving forward because of his added WisDOT expertise.”

Barta, who lives in Middleton, Wisconsin, will continue to be based in the greater Madison area while working with TADI. His role will consist primarily of managing projects in Dane County and south central Wisconsin, as well as providing expertise on any WisDOT projects in which the firm is involved. According to Olsson, hiring Barta was critical to better serving south central Wisconsin, and it marks the beginning of TADI’s formal expansion to Madison.

“We’re looking forward to expanding the geographic reach of our services, and hiring Larry is a key piece to that effort. We’ve worked on projects in Madison before, but having a full-time team presence in the city and having insider knowledge of the area, and WisDOT, is crucial. We know this is just the beginning, and we’re excited to keep growing and expanding our Madison office and team,” said Olsson.
