Brookfield Square Master Plan Traffic Impact Analyses

Location: Moorland Road & Bluemound Road, Brookfield
TADI's Role: Traffic Impact Analysis

An expansion of the Brookfield Square mall was proposed along the west side of Moorland Road (CTH OO) immediately south of Bluemound Road (USH 18) in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The expansion included a mix of commercial (shopping/restaurant) uses to be added to the outside fascia of the mall as well as several outlot buildings. As part of the expansion, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Waukesha County and the City of Brookfield requested a traffic impact analysis be conducted to identify any roadway improvements attributed to the new expansion. This included analysis of the main access points to the two heavily traveled corridors as well as analysis of one of the busiest signalized intersections in Southeast Wisconsin. Utilizing TADI’s strong relationships with the review agencies as well our expertise in analyzing complicated corridors, TADI coordinated with all of the review agencies to provide optimized signal timings and development of phased intersection improvements to accommodate the proposed redevelopment in a timely manner. The following elements were conducted as part of the project:

  • Data collection
  • Coordination with the WisDOT, Waukesha County, and City of Brookfield
  • Modeling 8 existing intersections including the coordination of 5 signalized intersections on two major arterials
  • Alternative traffic control analysis, including MUTCD signal warrants and potentially relocating access points
  • Public meetings & presentations
